Canada to extend its citizenship goals this year - Aptech Visa

Canada has exceeded its citizenship projections for 2021-2022, despite having one of the world's largest immigration populations. Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship (IRCC), revealed during Citizenship Week on May 23 that the government has granted citizenship to over 217,000 people and plans to add more in 2022-23.

"IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) is striving to deal with an immense number of citizenship applications while likewise making enhancements to its processes. As a result, Canada exceeded its citizenship goals for the years 2021-2022, welcoming nearly 217,000 new citizens, and plans to welcome even more in the years 2022-2023 "Minister Fraser stated the following.

The IRCC has continued to modernize and expand services for persons seeking to become Canadian citizens, according to the minister. The IRCC unveiled a new platform on November 26, 2020, making Canada one of the first countries in the world to conduct online citizenship testing.

The citizenship ceremony, which has been placed in the Supreme Court of Canada since 1947, is the final step in becoming a Canadian citizen. By taking the Oath of Citizenship at the ceremony, participants embrace the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship. The Oath of Citizenship was amended in June 2021 to reflect Indigenous peoples' inherent and treaty rights.

With over 85 per cent of newcomers becoming citizens, Canada has one of the highest naturalization rates in the world.

In 2021, the Canadian government established the 'Citizenship Application Tracker' to keep clients informed about the status of their citizenship applications and any required next actions.

Between April 1, 2020, and April 30, 2022, about 300,000 persons took the Oath of Citizenship using a virtual platform in nearly 14,000 ceremonies. In aggregate, about 3,000 candidates are invited to citizenship ceremonies each week by the Department.

16 New occupations will be eligible for Express Entry - Aptech Visa

16 new jobs will be eligible for Express Entry as a result of Canada's revamp of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system.

According to a government memorandum obtained by immigration.ca on February 21, 2022, the selection procedure will comprise truck and bus drivers, orderlies, teaching assistants, and dental assistants. The total rundown can be found underneath.

The memorandum affirms that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will complete the transition from NOC 2016 to NOC 2021 in November 2022.

The system will then transition from its existing skill level-based classification to a new TEER classification, which stands for Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities.

As a result, the following jobs will be added

Further Express Entry Changes Coming

In modifications to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act suggested by IRCC, significant improvements to Canada Express Entry that will allow occupation-based invitations have been highlighted.

The proposed modifications, which are part of Bill C-19, expand on some of the details initially published by immigration.ca in November 2021, giving the immigration minister more freedom in inviting people from the Express Entry pool.

It empowers the minister to designate a specific economic goal and invite applicants who can help achieve that goal based on work experience, education, or language abilities.

This would enable specific National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes to be targeted in draws.

IRCC's Director General, Strategic Policy and Planning, Philip Somogyvari, recently appeared before the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration to answer concerns about the proposed changes.

"The changes so made will enhance Express Entry's progressing versatility and facilitate Canada's financial recoup and expected improvement by entitling the department to all the more promptly pick candidates who match an assortment of monetary requests and needs," Somogyvari told the Committee.

"All the more explicitly, the corrections permit the government of Citizenship and Immigration to welcome foreigners to apply for Canada Permanent Residence through Express Entry on another premise: qualification to be individuals from a classification that will assist the economy with accomplishing a financial objective."

Somogyvari highlighted the example of employing immigration to help the technological sector in Canada develop.

"An Express Entry classification will be created in light of variables like professional experience, area of work, as well as the holding of a connected educational confirmation," he told the Committee.

"The highest level candidates in that field could from there on getting solicitations."

The specific category would be determined by ministerial orders, similar to how regular draws are currently conducted through Express Entry.

Current legislation, on the other hand, only allow for draws to be held for certain Canadian immigration categories, such as Federal Skilled Work, Federal Skilled Trades, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Provincial Nominee Program.

The minister will be forced to identify the economic purpose being addressed each time a new category is created, according to Somogyvari. The 'Annual Report to Parliament on Immigration' should include the usage of the new authorities.
