A review of the revisions to the Provincial Nominee Program from the previous month and the results of the national draws.
Over 3,000 invitations to submit applications for a provincial nomination were sent out by Canada's Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) last month.
Federal, provincial, and territorial governments work together to jointly manage the PNP, which is an immigration program. In order to better satisfy their needs in the labour market and advance their goals for economic growth, it gives Canadian provinces and territories the chance to construct their own immigration streams.
In order to better fairly distribute the benefits of immigration among the provinces and to promote immigration to smaller provinces and sparsely inhabited regions of the nation, Canada adopted the PNP in 1998. In most Canadian provinces and territories today, a sizable portion of economic immigration is attributable to the PNP. In fact, this program is crucial to meeting the demographic and labour force demands of many smaller Canadian provinces, including Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. The majority of participating provinces and territories have at least one PNP stream that is compatible with Canada's federal Express Entry system, which serves as the administration platform for three immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) (FSTP). Known as "enhanced" PNPs, Express Entry-linked PNP streams let a province choose applicants with profiles in the Express Entry pool and ask them to apply for a provincial nomination. Candidates for Express Entry who receive a nomination from a PNP have 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points immediately added to their base score.
In two separate PNP-specific Express Entry draws held in June, 1,568 applicants were given invitations to apply. FSWP and CEC invitations are currently being delayed in order to clear the Express Entry backlog that has accumulated as a result of the pandemic's administrative difficulties. However, Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser stated that Express Entry invites for FSWP and CEC candidates should resume on July 6 in an exclusive interview with CIC News last week. The Minister added that most new Express Entry applications would be handled once more within the IRCC's six-month service requirement.
The results of one Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) draw were made public by Alberta in June. On June 16, 150 applicants were invited to submit applications for a provincial nomination under the Alberta Express Entry stream. Candidates were invited if they received a CRS score of at least 306.
The Express Entry British Columbia, Skills Immigration, Tech, and Entrepreneur Regional Pilot streams of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) invite the top-scoring applicants to apply for provincial nominations. For candidates whose occupation has been prioritized, the province also holds a special draw. More than 600 prospective immigrants were invited by the province in June.
The province of Manitoba periodically extends invites through the three following streams: International Education Stream, Skilled Workers in Manitoba, and Skilled Workers Abroad. Last month, the province had one draw. 34 of the 146 Letters of Advice to apply that were sent out to applicants did so because their Express Entry profile was active. In a rare occurrence, applicants from the Skilled Workers in Manitoba were excluded from this draw.
Manitoba also occasionally holds Expression of Interest (EOI) draws for people who satisfy MPNP eligibility requirements and are impacted by the present situation in Ukraine as a special immigration measure for Ukrainian nationals. The province did one such draw on June 21 and sent out 14 invites.
The outcomes of nine draws held in June were made public by the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
Through Ontario's Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Worker (FSSW) stream, there were two draws. The province invited 153 applicants with a score of 481 or above and a targeted occupation following the first draw, which was placed on June 9. The province invited 356 applicants with a score of 440 or higher and a targeted occupation following the second draw, which was placed on June 21.
The province also extended invitations to 1,721 applicants from the Employer Job Offer categories of International Students, In-Demand Skills, Foreign Workers, and Masters Graduate Stream and PhD Graduate Stream the dates of these draws were June 1 and June 29.
Additionally, OINP declared in June that the federal government had given it its allotment of nominations for 2022. By 2022, the province will get 9,750 nominations.
Every month draws for the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) are organized in advance. On June 16, the PEI PNP held a draw and invited 127 applicants from the Express Entry and Labour Impact streams, as well as 9 from the Business Impact stream.
