What is the breaking rule in Express Entry?
The tie-breaking rule is a mechanism used by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) in the Express Entry system to rank candidates who have the same Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. This rule is used to determine the order in which candidates will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.
In cases where multiple candidates have the same CRS score, the tie-breaking rule is applied by giving priority to the candidate who submitted their Express Entry profile earlier. This means that if two or more candidates have the same CRS score, the candidate who submitted their profile first will be ranked higher and will receive an ITA in the subsequent draw.

The time and date of submission of the profile are recorded in the Express Entry system, and this information is used to determine the order of ranking in case of a tie.
It is important to note that the tie-breaking rule is only applied when the number of candidates with the same CRS score exceeds the number of ITAs available in a particular draw. Otherwise, all candidates with the same CRS score will receive an ITA.
what is an express entry draw?
Express Entry draw is a regular invitation round conducted by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) under the Express Entry system. In each draw, IRCC issues invitations to apply (ITAs) to candidates who have the highest ranking scores in the Express Entry pool.
The minimum CRS score required to receive an ITA can vary between draws depending on the number of candidates in the pool and the number of ITAs being issued. IRCC conducts Express Entry draws at regular intervals, usually every two weeks, to select candidates for permanent residence.
Once a candidate receives an ITA, they have 90 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence in Canada.
