What is Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream?

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program has an immigration route called the Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream (OINP). It enables foreign citizens with relevant skilled trades to work experience in Ontario to apply to live and work permanently in Ontario.

Before you can apply online to be nominated by the Ontario government for permanent residence, you must have a valid profile in the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Express Entry system and obtain a Notification of Interest from Ontario.

The next step after being nominated is to submit an application to the federal government via IRCC. They are the ones who ultimately decide who gets a permanent residency.

How to apply for Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream?

  • Direct applications under the Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream from candidates in the Express Entry pool are not permitted. Through their IRCC online account, candidates must first get an NOI from Ontario.
  • Candidates have 45 calendar days after receiving an NOI from the day the NOI letter was sent out to the OINP to submit an online application. Ontario's special application management system accepts applications online.
  • The Provincial Government of Ontario recommends prospective candidates assemble all pertinent paperwork and supporting materials. Any non-English or non-French document must be translated, validated, and, if necessary, notarized.
  • A $1,500 application fee is required.
  • The OINP will examine an application after it has been submitted. If selected in a subsequent draw from the Express Entry pool, the candidate will be awarded 600 further CRS points and an ITA. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) strives to handle applications for permanent residence from submission to completion in less than six months.

British Columbia Draw held on 7 Feb Invites 245 applications

On February 7th, there was a general and a targeted draw for the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP).

The province sent out 245 invitations to apply (ITAs) for general candidates and at least 38 ITAs for professions that were specifically targeted.

There are provincial nominee programs (PNP) in every province (except Quebec and Nunavut), which are ways for provincial governments to nominate foreign nationals with specialized skills to immigrate to their province and fill labor shortages.

It is predicted that Express Entry-managed programs will be replaced by the PNP in 2024. The PNP has significantly enhanced Canadian immigration programs as a means for foreign workers to migrate to Canada.
